Wendell Hurley Obituary

On January 2nd, 2022, Wendell Eugene Hurley went Home to be with the Lord.

Wendell Eugene Hurley was born in Ladysmith, WI on 3/17/1928 to William and Victoria Hurley. Wendell grew up with five siblings and helped with his family’s farm. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Navy and served for two years until the war ended. Wendell met his sweetheart, Elnora Davis at church and they were married on July 14, 1949. They were blessed with 63 years together and had a daughter and two sons.

Wendell worked a dairy farm for 19 years before going into the drywall business with a friend. He did that for several years before starting his own drywall business with his son and partner Craig. They worked together until he retired.

Wendell loved God and was always very active in his church serving as an elder and teaching Sunday school for years. Wendell enjoyed singing specials in church, and he and Elnora enjoyed singing in the choir. He was always singing and laughing.

Wendell is survived by: his three children, daughter Julie, sons Gene and Craig, granddaughters Danielle, Courtney, Taylor, grandsons Jordan, Jason, and Jimmy, and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his three sisters, Betty, Loretta and Rosemary. His two brothers, Gerald and Merle passed away several years ago. Wendell always enjoyed singing with his brothers, sisters, and other family members from a young age.

After Wendell retired and had more time, he enjoyed wood carving and painting beautiful animals, and was very talented at both. He gave some of his carvings to family and friends. He enjoyed traveling with Elnora in their motor home to visit family across the country for several years.

Wendell was loved by all who knew him. He brought laughter with his wonderful sense of humor, and people loved being around him. His love for Elnora and his whole family was a blessing for all of us. He will remain in our memories, fun stories, and our hearts.

A celebration of life memorial will be held January 15th, 2022 at the Heber Springs Funeral Home, 1199 Wilburn Rd, Heber Springs, Arkansas 72543. The family would also like to thank Southridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and Seven Springs Health and Rehab for all the care they gave Wendell over the past ten years. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made the Alzheimer’s Association.
