Thomas A. (Tommy) McHan left this earth to be with the Lord on March 25, 2025. He was born on September 22, 1927 in Monticello, Arkansas to Thomas A. McHan Sr. and Lula Jane Warbington McHan. He attended Monticello High School and graduated from A&M College, now UAM Monticello, with a BA Degree in Economics and Business Administration and a minor in History and Sociology and a minor in Education. He belonged to the Future Teachers of America, Sigma Tau Gamma Clubs. He was married to Syble Beatrice Rogers in Pine Bluff, Arkansas on April 1, 1953. 

Tom was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was employed at the Pine Bluff Arsenal for almost 40 years, working in the Housing Office, Payroll Office and Data Processing Office as Operation Supervisor. He held an Arkansas Real Estate License in White Hall. While living in White Hall, he coached Little League Baseball and won about 90 games and lost 6. He coached in Pine Bluff Tournaments and Coached All Stars several times. He was a Cub Scout Master for several years, a Deacon at Central Baptist of White Hall and First Baptist Church in Heber Springs. He held several positions in the churches as Sunday School Director, Adult Leader, and Adult teacher.

While living in White Hall, he was on the School Board when six new schools were built. He was instrumental in getting all schools into the North Central Association, making the grading system change back to the old system of grading with so many credits and quality points diplomas, if you earned them, or a certificate of attendance if you did not earn a diploma. From these changes, the percentile was raised from 35% to 65% when he left after 5 years on the board. He was a Mason at Redfield and Heber Springs. A member of the American Legion and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He played football at Monticello, made first team at A&M spring practice, but didn’t play in the regular season because he had to work to pay his tuition. He was a member of Rhoden Hunting Club. He lived in Heber Springs where he liked to fish on the Little Red River and Greers Ferry Lake. 

Tommy is preceded in death by one son, Thomas A. McHan III; three sisters, Dorothy O. Richardson, Gladys Lawson, and Clara Roy; and three brothers, Albert McHan, Dr. Frank McHan, and Paul McHan. 

He is survived by his wife, Syble Beatrice Rogers McHan; sons, Ronald Crawford McHan and Byron Keith McHan and his wife Ronda; 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Verna Conway of Monticello. He will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
