A Life of Love and Harmony
Saundra Kaye McCollum, a loving mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by loved ones, on February 15, 2026. Born on November 22, 1947, Saundra was a woman who truly danced to the beat of her own drum.
Her Passions and Wisdom
To her family, Saundra was a wellspring of wisdom and love. She cherished the time spent sharing vivid memories of her past and stories from her childhood, ensuring her legacy was built on the history and lessons she passed down. She was a firm believer in peace, not war, and she found her sanctuary in the arts. Music and movies were more than just hobbies; they were a source of comfort that soothed her soul. She was at her happiest when sharing a good tune or a great movie, believing that a beautiful melody or a powerful story could bring people together.
Family and Legacy
Saundra's love and storytelling live on through her family, whom she loved beyond measure. She is survived by: Her children: Michael Gaines and Brandy Ziegenbalg. Her grandchild: Elise Ziegenbalg. Siblings: Sister: Karen Brown and brother Richard Dillard. Along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, J.T. and Earline Dillard, along with many other loved ones lost before her time.
One of her favorite quotes by Hunter Thompson:
“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, 'Wow! What a ride!'".
A memorial service will be announced in the spring.
