Loretta Meeks Obituary

Loretta "Joy" Meeks, 85 went to be with our Lord while at home on Sunday March 8, 2020 at 12:51 pm, with her daughter Michelle by her side. Joy was born April 15, 1934, to Walter and Ada Groves. Joy was an only child. When Joy was young she worked as a switchboard operator at the hospital in Kokomo, IN.

Joy later became a stay at home mom that enjoyed raising six children with her husband John Allen Meeks I.  John was one of nine brothers and sisters.  Family get togethers were large and she loved spending time with her many brothers and sisters in law, and all of their children, She loved cooking big family dinners, where everyone would get together on a regular basis.  She loved her summer all in camping trips with family at Shiloh Park in Greers Ferry, AR.  She loved the water and taught her children at a young age to swim and water ski while John ran the boat.  She also taught many of her nieces and nephews to ski as well. Joy moved to Greers Ferry, AR when John retired from the Kokomo, Indiana Fire Dept.  They built their dream home and spent many beautiful years together enjoying the community of Greers Ferry, AR. where they used to vacation every year.

Joy worked at the Razorback Market, owned by Buddy and Athalee Cothren after the loss of her husband John.  Joy loved working at the store where she got to spend time meeting many wonderful people in the community.  She loved all the ladies she worked with and formed great friendships. Joy, Athalee Cothren, and Pat Buercklin became great friends. They met regularly at Bentley's for meals. Rob Bentley gave them their own special table and hung a plaque that still hangs there.  She worked for 30 years for different owners of the store as manager. She loved the many people that came through those doors.  She fell in love with this community and it was "home".  Joy will be missed by her many family members and friends.

She is survived by her daughters, Susan Hagerty (Dennis) of Greensburg, IN, Michelle Chadwell of Greers Ferry, AR, Jerry Lynn Mull of Tennessee; Sons, John Allen Meeks II (Roberta) of Kokomo, IN, Lonnie Meeks of Alaska, Mike Harner of Vancouver, WA.; Grandchildren,  Jennifer Van Horn (Michael), Matthew Meeks, Angie Solomon (Skip), Katie Hagerty, Chris Hagerty (Brittany), Stephanie Hagerty Miller (Chuck), Valerie Hagerty, Brian Chadwell (Margaret), and Shawn Chadwell; Great-Grandchildren, Noah Chadwell, Rylee Chadwell, Brittany Harner, Ryan Harner, Wesley Harner, Nicole Harner, Jeremy Meeks, Jessica Hamby, Katelyn Van Horn, Abigail Van Horn, Mitchell Van Horn, Kirby Meeks, Ozzie Meeks, Tucker Meeks, Ally Solomon, Lacey Solomon, Mack Solomon, Caitlin Solomon, Violet Miller; Sisters in law, Letitia Burrow, Patricia Ann Dick, Lorraine Meeks, Franji Meeks, and several generations of nieces and nephews.
