Evelyn Loraine (Gaines) Knighten Obituary

Evelyn Lorraine Knighten was born August 24, 1941 in Parkin, AR to Eddie and Gladys Gaines. She was one of 4 children, with 2 Sisters, Mildred and Trilby and 1 Brother, Robert Lee. Evelyn attended Parkin High School where she enjoyed playing Basketball and was elected Homecoming Queen. She graduated in 1959 and was employed at Bullard’s Café. One day while working, there was a man from Louisiana that came in and he ended up being the love of her life, Lloyd Knighten.

After graduation Evelyn moved to Memphis to live with Mildred and worked for Kimberly Clark for 2 years until her best friend, Dorothy, referred her to GE where her career extended for 33 years.

Evelyn and Lloyd were married in 1960 and lived in Parkin where they raised their children, Robert and Mitchell. After retirement in 1998 she made Greers Ferry her permanent home where many wonderful memories were made. Owning The Family Market Grocery Store with her family, meeting and getting to know the community of Greers Ferry filled her with joy. Having the opportunity to live here by her family and being with all of her Grandchildren and Great Grands was the biggest blessing for these past 26 years. This is what made her the happiest, being with family, cooking and caring for them.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Knighten; her son, Mitchell Knighten; parents, Eddie and Gladys Gaines; brother, Robert Lee Gaines; and Sister, Mildred Holt.
