Douglas Alan “Doug” Hauth, age 54, of Higden, Arkansas passed away October 6, 2021 at his residence. He was born December 2, 1966 to Shirley Edwards Hauth and the late Wayne Denver Hauth. He was a retired US Air Force Veteran.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Denver Hauth.

Survivors include his wife, Judi Elledge Hauth; his mother Shirley Hauth Riddell of Austin, Texas; Son, Tyler Hauth (Ashley) of Orange, MA; daughter, Krissy Adams (Tyler) of Conway, AR; Step-son, Cory Powell (Amanda) of Altus, OK; Step-daughter, Pamela Powell of Columbus, MS; brother, Larry Hauth (Laura) of Gridley, KS; Grandchildren, Hudson Adams, Denver and Isaac Hauth, and Chance and Eevee Powell, nieces, nephews and many friends.

Doug was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force in August 1990 from Officer Candidate School at Lackland AFB, Texas. He received his initial training as a navigator at Mather AFB, CA, then went through training in the C-130 at Little Rock AFB, AR on his way to the 41st Airlift Squadron at Pope AFB, NC. He served there from 1990 to 1994. Some highlights from his active-duty career there include his first crossing of the Atlantic Ocean as a navigator, and participating in what would have been the largest airborne assault in history, until it was called off with planes already in the air. He liked to say the string of aircraft was over 60 miles long.

Doug then started his instructor career with the 62nd Airlift Squadron Formal Training Unit at Little Rock AFB, where he served from 1994 to 1999. In 1999 Doug transitioned to become an active-duty member of the Arkansas Air National Guard, serving with the 189th Operations Group. Here he served as an instructor and evaluator for all Air Force C-130 navigator training, including initial, Low-Level training, and Instructor school. Doug thoroughly enjoyed his role in bringing along the next generation of C-130 aircrew. He retired from active duty in 2011. 

Doug could make friends with anyone, knew all his neighbors, and cared deeply about his family. He enjoyed boating and jet skiing on Greers Ferry Lake. He loved reading, especially later in life, and was an avid historian. Doug believed sincerely in the values of family, and was an extremely good role model to his children, who looked up to him all their lives and will continue to do so, now. Those who lost him have lost a man that was always ready to listen, eager to help, and undoubtedly one of the most reliable and caring people in their life. He will be deeply and sorely missed by dozens of people that knew him as a best friend, and hundreds more that knew him as a great, fun man. 

Funeral Service will be at 2:00 pm Friday, October 15 at Heber Springs Funeral Home chapel with visitation beginning at 12:30 pm until service time. Interment with military honors by the Air Force Honor Guard will be at Shiloh Crossroads Cemetery. Arrangements are by Heber Springs Funeral Home, 1199 Wilburn Road, Heber Springs, AR.
