Delbert Leon Vandivor, born in Monette, Arkansas on July 5, 1935, passed away quietly at his home on Sunday, October 24, 2021.
One of his favorite gospel songs was “I’ll Fly Away”, and he did. He had lived on God’s good earth 86 years and was loved and respected by his family, friends, and church folk. He was a long-standing member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, and had served as pastor in Arkansas and Missouri for many years, in addition to his long career in education.
He loved the Lord, his family, and old-time Bluegrass music, making many friends at festivals and jam sessions, bringing back a steady supply of corny jokes. He also had a passion for finding old beat up campers and tractors to “fix up” and then sell at less than he’d paid for them.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joyce; his son, Russ Vandivor (Shellie); his daughter Maury Lyons (David); grandchildren, Tyler Irwin, Jordan James (Austin), Cameron Vandivor (Amber), Paige Rogers (Rob), and Z Crider (Sidnie). He also doted on a bunch of great-grandchildren; Graysin and Savannah Irwin, Seth and Izzy James, Zeke and Carson Vandivor, Zaylee Crider, and Reagan and Stephen Lee Rogers. He leaves also one sister, Glendine Noblin in Missouri and one brother, Daniel Homer Vandivor (Margie) in Florida, along with a slew of nieces and nephews.
The pall bearers are Rob Rogers, Z Crider, Cameron Vandivor, Austin James, Joe Neighbors, and Richard McDougal.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, October 26 at 2:00pm at Heber Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 pm prior to the service. The interment will be at Goodsprings Cemetery in Heber Springs.
