Connie Sue Bates, 79, passed away on October 6, 2024, in Heber Springs, Arkansas. Born on November 29, 1944, Connie spent her early years in Hearne, Texas, where she attended Hearne High School. 

Connie was a beloved figure in her community, known for her loving, caring, fun personality, and she was beautiful inside and out. She dedicated many years as a church secretary and was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church in Texas before moving to Arkansas, where she joined Pleasant Springs Fellowship. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, reflected in her commitment to her church communities. 

She was married to Herbert “Lee” Bates for 36 years until his passing. Connie’s interests were diverse; she enjoyed oil painting, arts and crafts, music, and had a particular fondness for flowers and birds, especially chickens. Her quiet demeanor masked a sly and quick sense of humor, and she always endeavored to look her best. 

Connie is survived by her daughter, Janet Bates Sooter, and son-in-law, Guinn Sooter of Heber Springs, Arkansas, her grandchild, Jory Lee Bates, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law. She also leaves behind her niece, Karen Rains, who was like a sister to her. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert “Lee” Bates; her parents, James Walter Bishop and Beulah Mae Tidwell; two brothers; and three sisters. 

A service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Pleasant Springs Fellowship in Heber Springs, Arkansas at 10:30 AM.
