Charlene Joyce (Duke) Smith

Charlene Smith, age 85 passed away at her home in Heber Springs, Arkansas on March 19, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was born in Gutherie Center, Missouri May 10, 1937 to the late Loran and Irene Beardsley Duke,

She loved music and played the piano by ear. Her family said she was a master of looking in the pantry with little in it and making a wonderful meal to feed her husband and children. Charlene was a wonderful wife and mother who worked full time while taking care of her husband, after he became disabled, and her six children. She was a kind hearted and loving lady and will be greatly missed.

Charlene was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Merlin Smith, her parents; a son, John Merlin Smith; and a sister, Neva Coppic.

Survivors include: Son, Jack Smith of Heber Springs; four daughter, Willetta Rush (Walter) of Heber Springs, Teresa Laurent (Shawn) of Des Moines, Iowa, Mary Smith of Heber Springs, and Tina Collins (Roger) of Newton, Iowa; one sister, Jaxene Jarvis of Iowa; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and extended family.
