Billy "Bill" Fowlkes Obituary

Billy Harold Fowlkes, born November 24, 1932, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, February 8, 2018.  His life’s desire was to serve others.  He accomplished this goal by teaching school as a young adult, then served as Minister of Music, Minister of Education and finally as Associate Pastor in churches throughout Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas.  In the latter years he was an active member of First Baptist Church Heber showing the love of Christ through working with the Nail Benders, visiting the sick and teaching classes.

The love of his life was his bride, Jettavee. He was the minister but she was truly his helpmate. He loved having her by his side. Together they visited the sick, visited parents of new babies, encouraged grieving families, counseled many people and led numerous people to Christ. God used them to enhance His Kingdom.

Bill and Jetta loved traveling. They were able to see most of the United States and many countries overseas. Most trips were ministry oriented: building churches, setting up prayer ministries, holding revivals and Bible Schools, serving at Christian encampments and spearheading mission trips. It brought such joy to them to be on mission for the Lord.

He is preceded in death by Jettavee Fowlkes, his wife of 62 years, and Mark Sostarich, his son-in-law. He is survived by one brother, Tommy Fowlkes of Conway, Arkansas; a daughter, Lynn Sostarich of Spring, Texas; and a daughter and son-in-law, Tim and Jan Viertel of Madison, Mississippi. Bill and Jetta were blessed with six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren to carry on their legacy.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to First Baptist Church of Heber Springs as they reach their community for Christ.
