Roland Aubrey James, Jr. went to be with his Lord in August 2018. He fell off the 30 foot waterfall on the west end of the property he picked out for his parents, in the lovely foothills of the Ozarks, many years ago near Heber Springs, Arkansas.
He leaves behind his parents, Roland and Joyce James and a sister; Julie James of Heber Springs, Arkansas; an Aunt, Janice Griffin of Little Rock, Arkansas; an aunt Sonya Counts of Round Rock, Texas and an uncle Jim James of Heber Springs. He also leaves a nephew, many nieces, cousins and good friends in Heber Springs, Searcy, Jonesboro and out west where he grew up.
He was born at the Presidio of San Francisco and grew up in Sylmar, California. In his junior high and high school years he was very athletic and participated in sea diving, baseball, swimming, gymnastics and weight lifting. In his life he worked in many different fields. He was a cook in a Mexican restaurant, window installer in a high-rise building, service station attendant, store clerk, swimming pool builder, electrician, printer, factory worker, ranch hand and at his death he was the maintenance man for “cats only” veterinary clinic in Searcy, Arkansas. He was a consummate storyteller and family and friends will really miss him and his great stories.
On his “Birth Day” December 29, a celebration of his entering his new life will be held at 2:00 PM at Heber Springs Funeral Home Chapel. At 5:00 PM that evening all are invited to Heber Springs senior center for dinner.
