Mr. Richard Leon “Dick” Thomas age 88 of Tumbling Shoals, Arkansas passed away November 9, 2019 at Baptist Health Center in Heber Springs. He was born May 29, 1931 in Brown Grove, Arkansas the son of the late Eugene and Lizzie Thomas. He was a US Army Korean War Veteran serving from 1951 to 1953. Mr. Thomas was a member of the Gideons International and a member of the Mountain Top Cowboy Church of Heber Springs. He was a 32nd Degree Master Mason, a Shriner, a member of the Royal Arch Masons. During his time with the Shriners he competed in motorcycle events. He rode a Honda and competed against Harley Davidson’s on obstacle courses.
Mr. Thomas was a conservative hard - working man. He was a self-employed master plumber by trade. He was known as a self-reliant man that could repair about anything. His favorite hobbies included hunting and fishing. He and his son, Keith, enjoyed fishing trips in Alaska and spending time together.
Mr. Thomas was blessed with the friendship of a couple of good men, Mr. Jerry Cooper and Mr. Richard Rawson.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents and twelve siblings. He was the youngest of thirteen children.
Survivors include one son, Keith Thomas of Valdez, Alaska; one daughter, Susan Denise Bagwell of Drasco, Arkansas; one grandson, Brandon Lee Thomas and many, many friends.
There will be a visitation 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at Heber Springs Funeral Home. The funeral service will be 10:00 am, Thursday November 14, 2019 at the funeral home with Brother Bennie Foster officiating. Interment will follow in Heber Springs Cemetery. There will be a luncheon at the conclusion of services for family and friends at the Mountain Top Cowboy Church. In lieu of flowers any or all donations may be made to Gideons International or the Mountain Top Cowboy Church of Heber Springs, AR.
