Mr. William Alfred Smith, age 84, of Rose Bud, Arkansas passed away November 28, 2007, at White County Medical Center in Searcy. He was born February 21, 1923, in Shiloh, Arkansas, the son of the late Homer Dee Smith and Ellen Mae Birdsong Smith. Alfred had a great love of the outdoors. He would often take walks in the woods near his home or sit on his porch enjoying a sunny day. He was fond of gardening, listening to music, and taking care of his dogs. He had a strong faith in God and encouraged his family to place their trust in God as well. His wife of 63 years and the love of his life, Freda Smith, preceded him in death. Together, they raised three generations of children who remember them with great love and affection. His grandchildren remember “Papa” as a wonderful storyteller. During their visits with him, he often recounted stories from his past, which they will always cherish. Often these stories involved his parents and his brothers, who all held a special place in his heart. Alfred was also preceded in death by a brother, Dewey Smith. He is survived by one son, Preston Smith and wife Sheila of Rose Bud, Arkansas; two daughters, Arlene Simon and husband Ralph of Little Rock, Arkansas and Gloria Stark and husband Allen of Rose Bud, Arkansas; two brothers, Victor R. Smith of Little Rock, Arkansas and Bobby G. Smith of Cabot, Arkansas; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Visitation hours will be held 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Friday, November 30, 2007, at Heber Springs Funeral Home Chapel in Heber Springs. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, December 1, 2007 at Rose Bud Assembly of God Church with Rev. Doug McClure officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Bud Cemetery.
