Velma Greene Bennett
Velma Greene Bennett, age 90, of Tumbling Shoals, Arkansas, passed away Friday, July 31, 2009, in Plano, Texas.
Born July 21, 1919, in Springfield, Missouri, she was the daughter of the late Homer and Lota Greene. She grew up in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, where she met and married James Vernon Bennett, Jr. in 1938. After raising their family in Memphis, they returned to Arkansas, moving to Tumbling Shoals in 1978.
Mrs. Bennett was preceded in death by her husband and by two grandsons, Roy Arnold Peeler and Grant David Halliburton. She is survived by her sister, Maxine Blanton of Heber Springs, and three children: son James V. Bennett, III and his wife Virginia of Tumbling Shoals; daughter Vanita Briley and her husband Terry of Plano, Texas; and son Daryl Bennett and his wife Carol of Bedford, Texas. She is also survived by grandchildren James Bennett IV of Memphis; David Bennett of Charlotte, North Carolina; Tom Peeler of Clinton, Mississippi; Mark Peeler of Heber Springs; Tim Peeler of Memphis; Aaron Bennett of Heber Springs; Amy Halliburton of Dallas, Texas; Daniel Bennett of Washington, Illinois; Andrew Bennett of Hurst, Texas; Matthew Bennett and Emily Bennett of Bedford, Texas; and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Monday, 2:00 p.m. August 3, 2009 at Chastain Chapel in Tumbling Shoals. Interment will follow at Chastain Chapel Cemetery. Arrangements by Heber Springs Funeral Home.
