Thelma Maxine Worthy, 83, of Drasco, Arkansas (formerly of Little Rock) passed away at home on
December 23, 2009. She was born January 2, 1926 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Harry and Sophia Powers of Imlay City, Michigan. She was the beloved wife of Lorne Worthy for 61 years and a loving mother to seven daughters; Susan Goin of Texas, Lornea Wells, Roxanne Worthy, Mary Beth Worthy, Mary Ellen Worthy and Jacqueline Torbett of Arkansas, and Margie Stephens of Colorado. She also leaves behind sixteen grandchildren: Victoria Wells Gross, Amanda Wells, Cassie Goin LaFasto, Kyle and Jesse Belt, Angelina Blackwell Smith, Essau , Maxine and Emmett Worthy Blackwell, McClees, Wesley, Bay and Eli Stephens, and Forest L. Brooke, and Austin Torbett.
She was also the sweet “G.G.” to three great-grandsons; Gavin Gross, Dresden LaFasto and Ezra Smith. Mrs. Worthy was preceded in death by her brothers, Harry and Bob Powers.
She is survived by sisters, Margie Learman, Lillian Hanner, and Martha Morey and Patty Williams of Florida, Sally McLaren and Doris Demain of Michigan. She also leaves two brothers, Bernard Powers and Reggie Powers both of Michigan .
Mrs Worthy graduated from Hurley School of Nursing in Flint, Michigan. She worked at Bismark Hospital and Little Rock Veterans Hospital. After retiring from nursing, she flourished as a prolific artist, creating mosaics for family and friends for over a decade. Above all, she was an extraordinary wife, mother, grandma and great-grandma.
She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Fairfield Bay, Arkansas.
