Sidney Coleman Birdsong
Sidney "Sid" Coleman Birdsong, age 85, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away December 17, 2007, at Heber Springs Health Care. He was born November 17, 1922, in Shiloh, Arkansas, the son of the late Mary Murphree Birdsong and Bill Birdsong. Mr. Birdsong was a US Army veteran and a member of  Sugarloaf Baptist Church in Heber Springs.

His hobbies included a love for all kinds of sports and he also loved to listen to music, especially blue grass gospel.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Geraldine Birdsong of Heber Springs, Arkansas; a son, John Birdsong and wife Belinda of Greenbrier, Arkansas; two daughters, Marsha Xiques and husband Gary of Heber Springs, Arkansas and Mary Sloan and husband Peter of Sugarland, Texas; a brother, Oran Birdsong of Greers Ferry, Arkansas; three sisters, Irene Stark, Imogene McVey and Dewell Hooten, all of Greers Ferry, Arkansas; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Beyer, Nathan Xiques, Brent Monk, Brad Monk, Elizabeth Xiques, Hillary Birdsong, Joseph Birdsong and Brian Sloan; and four great-grandchildren and many friends.

Mr. Birdsong was also preceded in death by a brother, J.W. Birdsong and a daughter, Becky Monk.

Visitation hours will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Tuesday, December 18, 2007, at Heber Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, December 19, 2007, at Sugarloaf Baptist Church in Heber Springs with Brother Tony Criswell and Brother Lloyd Blanton officiating. Interment will follow in Shiloh Crossroads Cemetery near Greers Ferry, Arkansas. Arrangements are by Heber Springs Funeral Home, 501-887-9152.

comments: Mary and I grew up together, I recall her dad was taking to an away ballgame. I was scared thinking he would be strict on us .
