Leonard Cortez Roberson, age 84, of Rose Bud, AR (Hopewell Community), passed away August 15, 2011. He was born in Oplin, TX October  26, 1926. He was the son of the late Carl MacMicken and Mary Ellen (Bryson) Roberson. Mr. Roberson entered the army in March 1945. After 6 weeks Basic Training, he was assigned to the 97th Infantry Division in the Pacific Area. The unit was scheduled to invade Japan. After Japan surrendered, his unit went into Japan for occupation duty. He also served  3 tours of duty in Germany and 1 tour in Vietnam. Leonard retired on 30 September 1968 after 24 years of service with the rank of Master Sargent, E-8. Upon retirement, he mover to Heber Springs and was employed at Cleburne County Hospital, working in the Operating Room and Emergency Room. While working at the Hospital, he was given the nickname of Sarge, which he still has.

Leonard was a Master Mason. He served 2 years as Worshipful Master of Sugarloaf  Lodge 414, Heber Springs. He was very active in the Lodge while his health permitted.

 In 1975, Leonard started working at the Post Office in Heber Springs. He retired in December 1988 to his farm in Hopewell.

Leonard was a member of South Cross Roads church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent and a active board member. He was a member for 15 years. He enjoyed working in the church in any capacity for his Lord.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Mary Roberson; one sister, Betty Jane (Barrington) and by his first wife, Dorothy (Secrist) Roberson and one son, Dale Roberson.

Survivors include his wife, Ina Grace (Secrist Jenkins) Roberson of  Hopewell, Two sons, Bill (Peggy) Roberson of North Little Rock, Glen (Renee) Roberson of Quitman, and one daughter, Carla L. (Johnny) Davidson of Conway, one daughter-in-law, Pam (Dale) Roberson of Jacksonville. Four Step-sons, Charles (Sandra) Jenkins of Richmond, Larry (Andrea) Jenkins of Laurel, MD, Duane Jenkins of New Braunsels, TX, David (Dolly) Jenkins of Gaston, SC. Two step daughters, Paula (Marvin) Cole of Belle Glade, FL, and Sandra Bishop of Conroe, TX; one sister, Carlene Brooks of Clyde, TX, one brother, Conrad L. (Joyce) Roberson of Odessa, TX. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren, 2 step great-grandchildren.
