On August 31, Jim Baker went to be with our Lord and Savior at the Little Rock Baptist Hospital . Jim was born June 2, 1948 in Santa Anna, Texas to Pat Jim Baker, Sr. and Vera Payne Baker. He is survived by his mother, one sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Al Martin, all of San Antonio , TX and one nephew, Neil Martin, of Austin , TX . He is also survived by Aunt Mary and husband Bob Thorpe of Berryville , AR and Aunt Selma and husband Roy Caskey of Clarksville , TN and numerous cousins. Jim’s father, Pat Jim Baker, Sr. and his grandparents, Rufus and Iva Baker, and Wayne and Mary Jane Payne precede Jim in death.
Jim grew up in Texas and graduated from San Saba High School. He was a trucker for most of his life until he moved to Arkansas about twenty-four years ago. Since Jim had a driver’s license to export explosives, he worked for a time on special effects on a Charlie Sheen movie. For the past 15 years, he has worked for the City of Heber Springs as Director of Sanitation. He took great pride in his work and had many friends in town and in his church. Jim never knew a stranger. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish and hunt and loved serving his Lord and working in His church.
Visitation will be from 6-8 on Wednesday September 2, 2009 at the Heber Springs Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at the Heber Springs Church of Christ on Thursday September 3, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. All arrangements under the direction of the Heber Springs Funeral Home.
