Galen (Wes) Wessel, age 73, of Conway formerly of Heber Springs passed away Wednesday, September 22, at Arkansas Hospice in Little Rock. He was born in Centralia, Kansas, to Bernie and Rose Wessel. He is preceded in death by his parents and the following siblings, Clara Reiter, Alvina Brucken, Dorothy Wessel, Leona Wessel, Raymond, Regis and Adrian Wessel. He is survived by his loving wife Betty; two sons, Dean Wessel of Ward and Keith Wessel, and wife Dana of Cabot and a daughter, Donna Cathey of Cabot. He is also survived by the following siblings, Elmer Wessel, wife Bernice, Rosie Morris and Lorena Koch of Topeka, Kansas, Bernie Wessel, wife Marge of Arvada, Colorado Paul and wife Barbara of Hemet, California.
He is also survived by two step-daughters, Lisa Hood and husband Steve of Vilonia and Gena Covington of Memphis, TN. He has eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren and five step grandchildren. He is retired from the Air Force and from Remington Arms of Lonoke. He enjoyed gardening, yard work, traveling and golf. He is a member of the First Baptist Church of Heber Springs. Funeral Services will be held September 25, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Heber Springs, Arkansas. A visitation will be held prior to service starting at 1:00 p.m. Internment will follow at Cleburne County Memorial Gardens. Memorials can be made to First Baptist Church of Heber Springs or Freedom Way Ministries of Heber Springs. All arrangements are under the direction of the Heber Springs Funeral Home.
