C. A. (Cal) Smith, age 79 of Heber Springs passed away January 6, 2012
at Baptist Health in Heber Springs. Born June 6, 1932, in Potosi,
Missouri, he was the son of the late Charley and Mary Rauls Smith.
Before retiring he was self-employed and had worked in the insurance
business serving in several capacities with Western-Southern Insurance
Company. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Heber
Springs and a veteran of the US Air Force. In 1989 Mr. Smith took
early retirement and returned to Heber Springs area and opened Smith
Furniture Store.
Mr. Smith enjoyed gardening as a hobby. He also loved his daily trip
to the coffee shop with his dog, Casie to visit with friends.
He is survived by his wife, Alma Matthews Smith, whom he married
September 2, 1955; a daughter, Kathleen Rodriguez of San Antonio, TX;
two sisters, Bessie Walker and Rosemary Fairchild both of Royal Oak,
Michigan; two grandchildren, Rachel and Caitlin; extended family and
many, many friends.
The family will receive friends at Heber Springs Funeral Home Chapel
from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Tuesday evening, January 10, 2012.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 am, Wednesday, January
11, 2012 at Cleburne County Memorial Gardens with Brother Tommy Toombs
officiating. Military Honors will be presented by the Heber Spring’s
