Carol Catherine Dixon Field, age 68, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2011. She was born in Gunnison, Colorado, October 20, 1943, to Curtis and Margaret Dixon.
She is survived by her sons, Curtis and his wife, Sarah of Littleton, Colorado and Darren and his wife, Donna of Rogers, Arkansas. Carol was beloved grandmother to Max, Ethan, and Channing Field of Rogers, Arkansas and Monica Simkins of Littleton, Colorado. She has a surviving brother, Cleve Dixon and his wife, Nancy and a niece, Jessica Dixon of Aurora, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her step-father, Ted Everett.
In the Heber Springs school district Carol Field was an outstanding counselor and teacher for twenty-seven years. She served as a Science teacher in the Middle school, and as Special Education Resource teacher in both the Middle and High schools. Upon completion of her Master’s degree from the University of Central Arkansas, she became the Elementary School counselor. Later, she successfully transitioned to the High School as counselor, where she worked until her retirement.
Carol quickly developed a highly regarded reputation for her dedication, loyalty and meticulous attention to detail. The faculty had admiration for her quiet dignity when she worked with students. She gained great respect because of her devotion to those assigned to her care. Her confidentiality was prized; students trusted her and colleagues admired the impact she made on the student body. A former principal noted, “some people considered their positions as a job, she treated it as a labor of love. She was one of the nucleus of teachers that held the place together by professionalism.” Hours were spent writing personalized letters for students applying for jobs and scholarships. Long term relationships were developed for the school because of her professionalism.
