Adeline Lavine Whitaker Brown, 92, of Higden, Arkansas died early January 26, 2012. Adeline was born January 7, 1920 in Granger, Iowa, daughter of Luther and Retta Gates Whitaker. She married Marvin Elwin Brown on February 5, 1941 in Ford City, California.
Brownie and Adeline owned and operated Ellsworth Printing in Ellsworth, Iowa from 1952-1975. They published the South Hamilton News and the Story City Herald newspapers until retiring to the Ozarks at Greers Ferry, Arkansas. They both enjoyed fishing, gardening, crafts and relaxing at their lakeside property in Higden, Arkansas. Adeline made many new friends easily, especially at Seven Springs during the last 10 years.
She is survived by her two children, Marla Sue Brubaker and her husband, Dennis L., of Drasco, Arkansas; and Marvin E. Brown, Jr. of Tempe, Arizona; grandchildren, Sheryl Aleman Seaver of Garden Grove, California; Stephanie Aleman Dean of Riverside, California; Daniel L. Brubaker of Whitehouse, Texas; and Jonathan M. Brubaker, Sr. of Tucson, Arizona; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Luther Whitaker of San Diego, California; and Richard Whitaker of Reno, Nevada.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Sophronia Elizabeth Aleman (George), and siblings: sister, Marie Whitaker; brothers, Chalma “Neil” Whitaker, Delmar Whitaker, Frank Whitaker, Jack Whitaker, LaVern Whitaker and Channing Whitaker.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.
