Lloyd "Popi" Ernest Abbott quietly and with a sense of peace began to turn pale with a tear in the corner of his eye as he took his last breath on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at 8:20 p.m. He was born in Floral, Ark. April 22, 1927. During World War II he served in the U. S. Navy as an electrician's mate. In 1992, he closed his automotive repair shop in Newport, Ark. and retired to Heber Springs. Lloyd is survived by his wife of 63 years, Virginia Dunahay Abbott; three daughters: Lynn Williams of Heber Springs, Vicki Hulett of Crosby, Texas, Ann Boyce of Newport, Ark.; three grandchildren: Karrabi Malin of Grapevine, Texas, Alyson Pressley of Pomona, Calif., Ryan Hulett of Houston, Texas, Madelaine Boyce of Madison, Wis.; six great-grandchildren: Octavia Malin, Isabel Malin, Noah Malin, Payton Pressley, Killian Pressley, and Jonas Hulett. Memorial services for the Honorable Honorary Mayor of Portfest, Lloyd Abbott, will be held at 10 a.m. on July 23, 2011, at the Jacksonport State Park at camp site No. 19 where he has been attending Portfest for 28 years. At a later date, his ashes will be taken to his favorite fishing spot on the White River, at Guion, Ark. Guion was his favorite fishing and camping spot in all of Arkansas for many years. It held many fond memories because of the beautiful area and mostly because of his close friends. His heart was filled with an abundance of love of people and especially with the love of his family. He was very dedicated Razorback fan, avid fisherman, and hunter. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to The Razorback Foundation, Inc., 1295 South Razorback Road, Suite A, Fayetteville, Ark. 71701, (razorbackfoundation.com/giving.htm ) and/or to the Heber Springs Lions Club, c/o Kathy Golding, Treasurer, 105 South Second Street, Heber Springs, Ark. 72543. Please indicate that memorial gifts are: In Memory of Lloyd Abbott, 515 2nd Street, Newport, Ark. 72112. Thoughts in memory of Lloyd Abbott may be e-mailed to arkgrl@ymail.com.
